For over 50 years, St. Francis has been the region's leader in cardiac care. The Department of Cardiology comprises physicians who are authorities in the various subspecialties that make up the field of cardiology -- from open heart surgery to minimally invasive procedures such as TAVR and precision angioplasty, to leading edge treatments of arrhythmia and congestive heart failure. Our physicians are experts in noninvasive, invasive, diagnostic and therapeutic methods of treating heart disease, and they pursue the latest technologies, treatments, and techniques. This expertise, combined with a highly professionalized and caring nursing staff, enable us to offer our patients the very best in cardiac care. We have also been repeatedly recognized as a national leader by U.S. News & World Report.

Cardiology Department - An Overview
St. Francis cardiologists are not only outstanding clinicians; they are also leading researchers and innovators who have helped to shape modern cardiovascular medicine. They include some of the country's top specialists in noninvasive imaging, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, and cardiothoracic surgery.
Patients at St. Francis Hospital have access to the most advanced, innovative tools for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Our physicians are equipped with the latest technology and state-of-the-art diagnostic services, including cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, cardiac MRI, and CT scanning.
Interventional cardiologists offer a full range of leading-edge nonsurgical treatment options such as coronary artery stenting with state-of-the-art drug eluting stents, carotid artery stenting, radiofrequency ablation for arrhythmias, carotid, renal, and peripheral vascular angioplasty, balloon valvuloplasty for mitral and aortic heart valve disease, endovascular treatment of atherosclerosis, alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and minimally invasive treatment for atrial septal defects.
Today, St. Francis Hospital is a national leader in the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT), a high tech imaging system for viewing coronary arteries, and orbital artherectomy, a new technology to treat severe arterial calcification. Our interventional cardiologists, working in tandem with our cardiac surgeons, also helped pioneer the use of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive approach to treating severe aortic stenosis, and now Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR).
Our cardiothoracic surgeons at St. Francis Hospital are among the most experienced in the nation, performing more heart surgery than any other hospital in Long Island, with consistently outstanding success rates.
