Mental Health First Aid Certification Course
An eight-hour training certificate course which teaches participants a five-step action plan to assess a situation, select and implement interventions, and secure appropriate care for an individual. The program introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and discusses common treatments. Studies have shown that the CPR-like program effectively improves trainees’ knowledge of mental health disorders, reduces stigma, and increases the amount of help provided to others. This program is sponsored by the Mental Health Association of Nassau County and Nassau County Department of Human Services, Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency & Developmental Disabilities Services’ Behavioral Health Awareness Campaign.
