ROSLYN, NY, January 29, 2020 – In recognition of its consistently high patient satisfaction scores and other key benchmarks, St. Francis Hospital has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The quality rating system is designed to measure the experiences Medicare patients have during their hospitals stays. St. Francis is one of only three hospitals in the New York City metro area to receive the prestigious rating and the first and only one on Long Island to do so.

“Our mission is to provide the very best care to each and every patient, and we are honored to receive this recognition,” said Charles L. Lucore, M.D., MBA, President of St. Francis Hospital. “To achieve a five-star rating is a reflection of the ongoing commitment our doctors, nurses, and entire medical staff place on patient safety and satisfaction, and we could not have earned this top rating without them.”

The ratings, which are posted on the government’s “Hospital Compare” website are designed to give consumers a comprehensive look at hospitals so they can make more proactive choices about their care. The rankings are based on qualitative measures, including readmission rates for certain procedures, mortality rates after being hospitalized for select conditions, emergency room wait times, and patient satisfaction scores.

Achieving top patient satisfaction scores has been a daily mission at St. Francis, which was also recently recognized as a Leapfrog Top Hospital for patient safety. The Hospital has been consistently recognized for nursing excellence, achieving Magnet recognition three times in a row. Its quality and performance improvement department continually analyzes data to identify potential problems and take action if necessary with the goal of making sure patients get home as soon and safely as possible.
